Jo Ann Steckel Abraham
Jo Ann Abraham, 77, of Lexington, passed away at her home on December 15, 2018. She was born in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Everett Joseph “EJ” and Ruby Lee (Johnson) Steckel. She was raised all over the country, but spent the better part of her life in Lexington, SC.
Jo Ann was an Army wife who, at age 24, was suddenly widowed when her husband, Gordon S. Huggins, was killed in Vietnam. This left her alone with two small children and expectant with another child. Jo Ann re-married and had another child, and then was divorced shortly thereafter. An independent woman, Jo Ann raised her four children on her own. She loved to sew and do all kinds of stitching. Ever the cat lover, she always had several kitty cats for company.
Surviving are her daughter, Vickie (Roger) Hall of Lexington; son, Gordon Huggins of Lexington; daughter, Katharine (Michael) Buckner of West Columbia; grandchildren, Logan Hall and Haven Hall; great-grandchildren, Logan Hall, Jr. and Haley Hall, and her three cats. She is also survived by her brother, John Steckel.
In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer Fortner Huggins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Lakeside Gazebo at Woodridge Memorial Park of Lexington, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Pastor Mark Bredholt will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at the Gazebo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pets, Inc., 300 Orchard Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170.
