Uncle Rex is intertwined in the fabric of my memory. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of something he said or did, and grin. He was a character! To know him was to love him;
His personality was infectious. I have honestly never met someone who knew Rex, who didn’t smile when they asked; “How's ole Rex doing?”
He was always quick with a joke and always had a “one liner” that was sure to have you smiling or blushing… maybe a little of both.
He was opinionated, and he would let you know it! There was only one real school/ football team in South Carolina and it wasn’t in Columbia. If you drove anything other than a Ford, you apparently liked walking. or working on it. Barbeque came in one flavor, everything else… was… well something else?
He was a mechanic by trade, a welder by art… “Rex can you weld?” “ I can weld anything from the crack of dawn to the crack of your….”
His fashion consisted of Carhart overalls, slip on boots, a Clemson hat, and he always carried a clip-on knife, ready to pull it and give you a wink. He smoked PALL-MALLS unfiltered, later in life Marlboro reds.
He put out a tough as nails bravado, but under that was a teddy bear who was willing to give the stranger off the street, the shirt off his back.
He was a Good Man, a Good friend, and a Good Uncle. I loved him, he knew it, and I’m Glad!

I couldn’t have put it better myself! Tommy is correct in saying Rex was a “Character”, but in a good way! The world seems a little more “quiet “ in a sad way, now that he has left us to be with the Lord. Rex always had something to say, and it was usually funny! I always loved it when he called me “JD” because I look so much like my daddy. Rex and Daddy had a great friendship for many years; they enjoyed working together and we used to get together as families, when he and Peggy were married. I always loved their family and Marty, Toby and I enjoyed spending time together, as well. Sending our deepest sympathies to the Metz family from the Griggs family , as we will always think of and remember with fondness our time with Rex. May God bless you and comfort you, as only He can. With Love, Angie Griggs Buxton
